Huh. Paul Sholar notes that the fires are almost directly on the San Andreas fault. In that location, an actual quake might not be necessary for a rupture, he indicates.

It's a little hard to believe that they'd put a major natural gas line on the San Andreas fault.

There doesn't appear to have been any seismic activity near the San Bruno site.

Unlike a wildfire - many of these people had no notice, no opportunity to evacuate.

A resident in San Bruno reports seeing women with bad burns running down the street.

Looking at aerial footage of the fire, it's hard to believe that only 20 homes are impacted.

Not news on the East coast, apparently: a massive explosion in San Bruno, California, that has taken out almost two dozen homes.

This is like the oil spill, in fire. It will keep going until they cut off the source.

In the 10 minute video below, cobbled together by some other person from animated gifs, there's a surprise at the 2:18 mark - the inclusion of an animated breakdancer.

This is noteworthy because I made a similar gif about 14 years ago. (It's at right, obviously.) The image series is form a how to breakdance poster included with the Breakdance LP, which a girlfriend of mine had back in the '90s.

That two people made an animated gif from the same obscure record is a bit odd. But he didn't include the name of the move - nor does it seem that he made animations for top rocking, head spins, or foot work.

Time's James Poniewozik sums up the media's role in the anti-Islam fad.

What if everyone agreed not to cover the Koran-burning? What if they just skipped going? What, after all, is actually newsworthy? We know what will happen. I could draw a picture of it right now that would be about 99% accurate. So why go? Because those that support this idiocy would cry foul? Let them.

Media companies are already delineating areas they won't cover. Why not just make it the whole thing?

The Tea Party is the first true new media movement. It's the first mass uprising to organize outside and against the press, because...it doesn't trust it and it doesn't need it.
